Lemke Facial Surgery - Upper Eyelid Blepharoplasty

Blepharoplasty of the upper eyelids involves the artful removal and/or redraping of skin, muscle, supporting tissues, or fat. The laser is sometimes employed. Benefits achieved include a "more rested appearance", the ability to again wear makeup, and the reduction of wrinkles and puffiness.

The forehead and eyebrows support the upper eyelid skin. If the forehead and eyebrows droop downward, the upper eyelid skin will sag also. In this situation, the optimal rejuvenation is achieved by also undergoing forehead lifting. (Please see Forehead / Eyebrow Lifting.)

Before and after upper eyelid blepharoplasty surgery. This woman also underwent elevation of the upper eyelid margins (blepharoptosis repair). Laser resurfacing of the forehead and temple areas was performed to smooth the wrinkling.

This lady experienced slippage of the connections of the levator muscle, allowing the upper eyelids to droop. The eyelids move normally, as the muscle remains healthy. In addition to strengthening the levator muscle, the excess skin in the upper eyelids has been reduced.

This lady noted puffiness in the upper eyelids and could no longer see her makeup. Examination shows fullness in the upper eyelids with draping of the skin down to the eyelashes. Blepharoplasty was performed to reduce redundant upper eyelid skin. Postoperatively the eyelids are again visible; the makeup can be seen; and the eyse appear more open. Some upper eyelid fullness does remain which could be improved with an eyebrow or forehead lifting procedure.
