Loosening of the
eyelids is very common. The loose or lax eyelid often
results in irritated, tearing or dry eye. The eyelid
may be so loose that the eyelid actually falls away from
the eye itself. Some cases result from tightening of
the skin which pulls the eyelid away from the eye (cicatricial
ectropion).
Surgical tightening of the eyelids is performed either
in the office or in the ambulatory surgery center. Patients
note improvement in most cases. The irritation, tearing,
and dry sensations can continue to improve for months
after the eyelid tightening.
